When attempting to open either the 32-bit or 64-bit Synergy Configuration Program one of the errors below now appears; previously the Synergy Configuration Program was opening without issue.
Or
The above errors are due to the executable that launches the Synergy Configuration Program (synconfig.exe) not being able to find its path -- C:\\Program Files\\Synergex\\SynergyDE\\dbl\\bin for 64-bit Synergy/DE or C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Synergex\\SynergyDE\\dbl\\bin for 32-bit Synergy/DE.
The first error above was because a symbolic link with the name “Program” had been created in the root of the C drive; the second error was because a file named “Program” had been created in the root of C drive. Once the symbolic link or file was removed (deleted or renamed) the Synergy Configuration Program opened again without issue.
When the symbolic link, file, or a folder named “Program” exists at the root of the C drive, Windows generates the warning shown below on system boot, pointing to a potential problem:
Note that there is no problem opening SynConfig when the folder “C:\\Program” exists. Interestingly, none of the other Synergy executables tested were affected when a symbolic link or file named “Program” existed at the root of the C drive, but this is clearly not a recommended practice.
